Holly

Latin name: Ilex spp.

Origin: Various (175 species grown around the world)

Characteristics: Heartwood color is cream-white, sometimes with a greenish-grey cast and little to no figure. Grain tends to be irregular, but is so fine it is barely visible. Texture is smooth to the touch. Logs are generally small dimension and very little is produced. At one time was used significantly in the marine trade for “teak and holly” flooring.

Uses: Inlays.
