Origin: Central and South America, Caribbean

Characteristics: Heartwood is olive-brown with lighter or darker streaks. Veneer is very difficult to slice because of its density. Quartered veneer has become quite popular since the species introduction in the flooring market.

Uses: Architectural woodwork, flooring and aircraft interiors.
