Latin name: Khaya ivorensis, Khaya anthotheca, Khaya nyasica

Origin: Africa

Characteristics: Heartwood varies from light pink–red to deep reddish-brown. Grain can be straight to interlocked with moderate to medium coarse texture. Quarters are sometimes plain and referred to as “cigar box” in appearance but are more often striped. Some logs develop light to medium broken figure and very rarely fiddleback. Also available plain sliced but usually has a broad heart because of the dimension of the logs.

Uses: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture, doors and cabinetry.
