Latin name: Louro faia

Origin: South America

Characteristics: Color varies from deep pink to dark brown and sometimes greys. Develops very striking “flake” or medullar ray when this species is cut as quarters, resembling snakeskin. Counter to what many people think this species is not from Australia as was once the case. Has a waxy texture.

Uses: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
