Okoume

Latin name: Aucoumea klaineana

Origin: Central Africa

Characteristics: Heartwood is dark pink to orange-pink in color sometimes with grayish hue. Grain is often interlocked and sometimes wavy. Most sliced logs have some degree of figure. Special quartered logs have large scale rolling figure similar to a barber pole that are very stunning. Much of this species is used in commercial grade applications such as backing or cross banding.

Use: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture, commercial grade doors and plywood.
