Latin name: Chloroxylon swietenia
Origin: Sri Lanka, India, Brazil
Characteristics: Color is yellowish to gold. Typically sliced as true quarters which have a beautiful striped pattern. Often has a bee’s-wing figure making this an extremely decorative wood. Panel length logs of this type are becoming rare and very expensive. A very hard wood that in raw veneer often produces a fine dust when being stored.
Use: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture and inlays.
