Teak
Latin name: Tectona grandis
Origin: Southeast Asia
Characteristics: Teak can be differentiated into “golden” Teak and black streaked Teak. Golden Teak is a uniform golden-brown to brown color without markings, while streaked Teak has the same background color but also has wisps of darker chocolate-brown markings. Some logs develop a mild broken fiddle back or beeswing figure. Logs are available in plain sliced and quartered material. The specie is described as having a lightly oily surface. Areas for log supply have changed considerably in recent years with log bans from Myanmar the former Burma.
Use: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture and marine plywood.
