Origin: North America
Characteristics: Colors range from “mousey grey” to brown to redish brown with a purple cast. Some logs are contrasted and some have an even color. Color depends on the region of the logs the cooking time and the amount of time logs are allowed to “sweat” before drying. Logs occasionally have figuring mostly in the quarter grain. Pin knots are common and an accepted character mark. Crotches are produced periodically but lengths are challenging and rarely over 30”.
Use: Architectural woodwork, office furniture and musical instrument production.
