Origin: Africa
Characteristics: Heartwood ranges from an even mocha to dark brown almost black. Grain is somewhat course and specie is dense requiring intensive cooking. Logs are wrapped after slicing and prior to drying and allowed to sweat to enrich the color. Dimension is average and logs are of moderate size. Quartered material is in high demand. Plain sliced is available but in lesser amounts.
Use: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
